The Saddlebacks match v Marlborough was abandoned on Saturday due to a neck injury sustained by Devizes centre Sam Jones 25 minutes into the match, which Marlborough were leading 12-6, thanks to two fine scores by the home side. Rory Brown kicked two penalties to keep Devizes in touch and were in the ascendancy before Jones was struck by injury.
Sam is all and well and was released from hospital later on Saturday evening – just a sore neck despite the initial concerns. The match was agreed by both coaches to be abandoned due to the time it took for the ambulance to arrive, the fading light and no opportunity to play on Marlborough’s 2nd XV pitch as it was not marked. Therefore the match will need to be rescheduled for later on in the season.
Thank you to Marlborough RFC, our physio Chloe Brown and the Wiltshire Ambulance service for their support during this event – thankfully this was not a serious injury.
